*DUE TO A FAMILY EMERGENCY, CORINNE SHARLET IS UNABLE TO PERFORM THIS EVENING
Corinne Sharlet’s music captures the imagination like the high deserts of Central Oregon where she was raised. With her magnetic voice and striking melodies, Sharlet has drawn comparisons to Angel Olsen and Lana Del Ray. Corinne’s new EP, ‘Belief and Imagination’ reflects a sense of ease and depth as the songwriter matures into her sound and life. The title track ‘Belief and Imagination’ was inspired by Corinne’s work as a psychotherapist. She says “humans are storytellers. We need stories to make sense of the chaos in our lives. I’ve come to learn that our imaginations are a vital survival mechanism. In my work as both a musician and therapist, I try to illuminate and encourage imagination through opening myself up to mystery and approach imagination with reverence and awe.” The song reflects this sense of reverence with Corinne’s effortlessly clear vocals on top of a 90-esque drumbeat, rich baseline and dreamy, meandering piano chords.
Julian Morris (b. 1989; Boston, MA) has been writing and recording as Layperson for 10 years. Culling inspiration from salt of the earth lyricists like Iris Dement and Townes Van Zandt, Julian’s music is earnest and true to his life experience. Julian transitioned in 2015, which permanently altered his singing voice. Re-learning the voice as a new instrument allowed him deeper access to expression. Julian moved to Portland, OR in 2008. He writes and records the majority of his music from home. Julian has released records with Portland based label Good Cheer and NY based Lobby Art.
Alex Crowson is singer/songwriter and podcaster based in Portland, OR. His second EP, “Sorry, I Missed You”, is a bittersweet letter to lost lovers, dead mothers and dogs. Lush with longing and celebration, the record was written and produced against the bright and lonesome backdrop of a late Pacific Northwest spring.
