THE RESOLECTRICS

Expanding on their love of American R&B, The Resolectrics are a rock & soul power trio exploring the vast landscapes of roots music with layered harmonies, multi-tonal guitar tracks, and ambitious arrangements. Since releasing their “Booker T. meets The Band” debut record, High Water, guitarist Tate Peterson, drummer John Becher, and bassist Bob Dunham have honed a leaner, meaner approach through continuous gigging and constant refinement. The band’s latest record, Open Seas, adds some timeless, British Invasion-style psychedelia to the mix along with a touch of horns and harmonica that help reconnect the music to its soul-based heritage.

Blue Darling is a folk duet featuring Ezza Rose and her long-time collaborator, Craig Rupert. As Ezza’s full-band sound evolved over the years, the two decided to form a songwriting outlet for their folk songs that recall their early days picking acoustic guitars and singing close harmonies. They are playing in celebration of the release of their debut EP, Folded Hands!

Taco Tapes is a collaboration steered by Ben Walden and Jeremy James Meyer. Both raised in the Pacific Northwest and in the folk music tradition, they cite their parents, more than anything, in initiating them down this path.

“Taco Tapes’ third full length album, Keep On The Shady Side, puts a greater emphasis on co-written original material and full band arrangements. The musical influences of psych rock, hip-hop, and Latin jazz can be heard alongside the old-timey freak folk style that has defined the band from its formation. Keep On The Shady Side is a loose concept album, which explores the margins of society from the perspective of millennials who grew up in the Pacific Northwest. The music is darkly introspective, yet danceable; deftly spanning tragedy and humor, shade and light.”

Cruise Control is a band of friends from Portland, Oregon who strum up their love for classic country music through a filter of power pop songwriting. Kris Deelane is making a loud noise in the Portland Rock scene. With her nine piece soul band The Hurt, Kris is amping up her performances in and around Portland and the Pacific Northwest. A true road warrior with years of solid touring experience, Kris is keeping it local and in the moment with shows all over town. From The Alberta Rose Theatre to The Doug Fir, McMenamin’s Edgefield to Al’s Den at the Crystal and a standing residency at Laurelthirst Public House, she and the band are everywhere. Summer 2015, Kris Deelane and The Hurt performed at Oregon Country Fair, What The Festival, and Dixie Festival, and also opened for 3 Dog Night, and Martha Davis and the Motels.

The Hurt is ten players strong and features a number of Portland music luminaries including Ned Failing (Mexican Gun Fight/Floydian Slips) on drums, Steve Kerin on keys (Too Loose Cajun Band, Atomic Gumbo, Rose City Kings and winner of the Cascade Blues Association’s “Keyboardist of the Year”), Greg Hyatt on bass (Five Easy Pieces, Zoo People, Berthaline, and Lapdog, featuring members of Toad The Wet Sprocket), Heidi Shuler (Merl Saunders) on percussion and Alan Toribio (Mexican Gunfight) on guitar. With her backing singers, The Lady Parts, and horn section, Kris is dipping into deep cuts and old school favorites from the soul sounds of the 60’s and 70’s. The Pagan Jug Band is an all-acoustic, boot-stompin’ band featuring a mean banjo and a rockin’ guitar – throw in more strings, some brass, and a washboard and you’ve got a band that really knows how to get folks out of their seats and onto the dance floor! On any given Tuesday in Portland you’ll see them playing their weekly “Pagan Tuesday” show – where the band sometimes swells up to 10 members as long-time fans and random passers-by join them on stage to keep the music communal. The Pagans have a large body of original songs that they mix seamlessly with carefully curated covers and traditionals.

With what PopMatters describes as “tenacious swagger,” critically-acclaimed solo artist Ashleigh Flynn recently dialed up the volume and debuted an all-female rock band as a nod to the “Rosie the Riveter” archetype from WWII.

​Flynn grew up in Kentucky and cut her teeth on local bluegrass music and Motown. A prolific songwriter and performer blessed with unbridled charisma, she arrived on the Americana scene in 2008 with the release of her third LP, American Dream, a poetic lament to the elusiveness of that national ethos. A Million Stars followed in 2013 – a rollicking journey celebrating the women pioneers of the American West.

Josh Cole has been playing bluegrass in the Pacific Northwest for over 25 years. It started in the late 90s, when he first heard “Midnight Moonlight” from Old and In the Way. That moment forever bonded Josh to bluegrass music.

He went on to serve as President of the Oregon Bluegrass Association and continues to host “Music From the True Vine” on KBOO-FM, the longest running bluegrass show West of the Mississippi. 

Josh’s influences include Ralph Stanley, Larry Sparks, and Bill Monroe, many of whom are featured on the Josh Cole Bluegrass Show, his podcast with nearly 200 episodes of traditional bluegrass recordings. 

Josh has played in dozens of bands, along with running his own hard-driving bluegrass band for nearly two decades. That’s why hometown fans have lovingly nicknamed him “The Elvis of Portland Bluegrass.”

Nathaniel Talbot and Lincoln Crockett

Hailing from Washington’s Whidbey Island, guitarist and singer Nathaniel Talbot, alongside Trout Lake’s mandolinist and vocalist Lincoln Crockett, have joined forces in a musical partnership two decades in the making. With the addition of Whidbey Island’s Keegan Harshman on upright bass, this trio is crafting some of the most compelling and innovative music of their careers.

Their sound—self-described as shoegazer freefolk—is a sophisticated blend of American roots music with elements of pop, jazz, and funk, half-tethered to tradition and half stemming from the Pacific Northwest’s legacy of freedom and innovation. Now on their third seasonal tour, their shows continue to draw larger crowds and more enthusiastic responses, with listeners and fellow musicians alike praising the trio’s musicianship and artistry.

Nathaniel Talbot’s songwriting and complex fingerstyle guitar work are inspired by influences like Bill Frisell, Kelly Joe Phelps, and Elliott Smith, while Crockett brings a modern folk and progressive bluegrass flair, blending fast picking, rich chording, and ear-catching melodies.
