Special electric Halloween costume party hosted by DADWEED!!

dadweed is an acoustic trio based out of Portland, OR. Reimagining pickin’ and thumpin’ by blending elements of jazz/folk/pop/R&B within a traditional bluegrass lens, their sets explore a wide variety of styles and dynamics – with a focus on improvisation – showcasing both covers and originals.
Leaning heavily into three-part vocal harmonies and virtuosic instrumentation, dadweed strives to redefine what’s possible in bluegrass. The trio has toured throughout the west coast since 2024, appearing at festivals, venues, and private events. dadweed released their first EP in Summer 2024 and will continue to release new singles throughout 2025.

Expanding on their love of American R&B, The Resolectrics are a rock & soul power trio exploring the vast landscapes of roots music with layered harmonies, multi-tonal guitar tracks, and ambitious arrangements. Since releasing their “Booker T. meets The Band” debut record, High Water, guitarist Tate Peterson, drummer John Becher, and bassist Bob Dunham have honed a leaner, meaner approach through continuous gigging and constant refinement. The band’s latest record, Open Seas, adds some timeless, British Invasion-style psychedelia to the mix along with a touch of horns and harmonica that help reconnect the music to its soul-based heritage.

Veteran songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Mike Coykendall has been amazingly prolific over the last three decades or so. Currently most well known for his duties as a sideman, producer, and recordist via his work with M Ward, Blitzen Trapper, She & Him, Annalisa Tornfelt, & Tin Hat Trio, to name a few, Coykendall has been making his own unique outsider records since the mid ’80s.
In 2012 Coykendall released his third solo record titled Chasing Away the Dots via Portland’s Fluff & Gravy Records. Dots is a widely varied, moody yet playful record with a lived-in feel and is the perfect vehicle for Coykendall’s unfurnished vocals. This tidy little diamond in the rough also contained guest appearances by some of Coykendall’s musical friends including M Ward, Zooey Deschanel, Eric Earley, & Ben Gibbard.

Kris Deelane is making a loud noise in the Portland Rock scene. With her nine piece soul band The Hurt, Kris is amping up her performances in and around Portland and the Pacific Northwest. A true road warrior with years of solid touring experience, Kris is keeping it local and in the moment with shows all over town. From The Alberta Rose Theatre to The Doug Fir, McMenamin’s Edgefield to Al’s Den at the Crystal and a standing residency at Laurelthirst Public House, she and the band are everywhere. Summer 2015, Kris Deelane and The Hurt performed at Oregon Country Fair, What The Festival, and Dixie Festival, and also opened for 3 Dog Night, and Martha Davis and the Motels.
The Hurt is ten players strong and features a number of Portland music luminaries including Ned Failing (Mexican Gun Fight/Floydian Slips) on drums, Steve Kerin on keys (Too Loose Cajun Band, Atomic Gumbo, Rose City Kings and winner of the Cascade Blues Association’s “Keyboardist of the Year”), Greg Hyatt on bass (Five Easy Pieces, Zoo People, Berthaline, and Lapdog, featuring members of Toad The Wet Sprocket), Heidi Shuler (Merl Saunders) on percussion and Alan Toribio (Mexican Gunfight) on guitar. With her backing singers, The Lady Parts, and horn section, Kris is dipping into deep cuts and old school favorites from the soul sounds of the 60’s and 70’s. Think Motown to Memphis, Stax to Atlantic records, Aretha to Etta. It’s all here!

With a wide-range of influences, today he cites Gillian Welch, John Prine and The Mountain Goats as a few notable musicians that have helped him forge his own sound and identity as an artist.

Josh Cole has been playing bluegrass in the Pacific Northwest for over 25 years. It started in the late 90s, when he first heard “Midnight Moonlight” from Old and In the Way. That moment forever bonded Josh to bluegrass music.
He went on to serve as President of the Oregon Bluegrass Association and continues to host “Music From the True Vine” on KBOO-FM, the longest running bluegrass show West of the Mississippi.
Josh’s influences include Ralph Stanley, Larry Sparks, and Bill Monroe, many of whom are featured on the Josh Cole Bluegrass Show, his podcast with nearly 200 episodes of traditional bluegrass recordings.
Josh has played in dozens of bands, along with running his own hard-driving bluegrass band for nearly two decades. That’s why hometown fans have lovingly nicknamed him “The Elvis of Portland Bluegrass.”

The Pagan Jug Band is an all-acoustic, boot-stompin’ band featuring a mean banjo and a rockin’ guitar – throw in more strings, some brass, and a washboard and you’ve got a band that really knows how to get folks out of their seats and onto the dance floor! On any given Tuesday in Portland you’ll see them playing their weekly “Pagan Tuesday” show – where the band sometimes swells up to 10 members as long-time fans and random passers-by join them on stage to keep the music communal. The Pagans have a large body of original songs that they mix seamlessly with carefully curated covers and traditionals.

With what PopMatters describes as “tenacious swagger,” critically-acclaimed solo artist Ashleigh Flynn recently dialed up the volume and debuted an all-female rock band as a nod to the “Rosie the Riveter” archetype from WWII.
Flynn grew up in Kentucky and cut her teeth on local bluegrass music and Motown. A prolific songwriter and performer blessed with unbridled charisma, she arrived on the Americana scene in 2008 with the release of her third LP, American Dream, a poetic lament to the elusiveness of that national ethos. A Million Stars followed in 2013 – a rollicking journey celebrating the women pioneers of the American West.
Ashleigh Flynn & The Riveters’ inaugural LP hit the streets in 2018 featuring a sound that hearkens back to early Stones, ‘70s psychedelic country rock, and alternately charms like a Sunday afternoon front porch session…

Alder Street is boot-stompin’, gritty, and bourbon flavored. The band draws its inspiration from a variety of sources, evinced by original tunes that break the mold of traditional bluegrass, and reprises ranging from Iron Maiden to Bill Monroe.
The band first formed for a benefit show from a hodgepodge of musicians living in Eugene’s infamous Campbell Club Cooperative on Alder Street.Over the years Alder Street blossomed in Eugene’s infamous local music scene.
Alder Street’s latest album, Americannibal, was relased in May 2014 at Seattle Folklife. It has been described as “a tight, polished study on the frontiers of contemporary bluegrass” – Eugene Weekly
Alder Street’s line-up consists of Chris Kelley (banjo), Jesse Lawton (mandolin), Aaron Nelson, (bass), Ian Royer (guitar), Emily West (drums) and Jake Beckwith (fiddle).

Blue Flags & Black Grass has been performing in Portland and the PNW for over 10 years. This past summer, BFBG had a great adventure playing around Alaska. You can typically find Blue Flags at summer festivals such as NW Folklife, Oregon Country Fair, Sh’Bang, Cascadia Rendezvous and other events. Blue Flags has been hosting jug band workshops for kids and adults alike. In February, Blue Flags released their latest album, Sweet Dee’s Kitchen.
Blue Flags & Black Grass is a combination of many flavors of acoustic American Roots Music. With the instrumentation of Banjo, Res-o-phonic Guitar, Fiddle, Washboard, Kazoo and Upright Bass, Blue Flags emulates the String Bands of the 1920s and ‘30s. Their typical gig will blend Ragtime, Viper Jazz, Country Blues, Old-Time, Jug Band and Bluegrass. As well as performing classic standards and dusting off hidden gems, Blue Flags also features original songs by Flip ‘Fats’ McGuire.

THE BBQ BOYS
Originally the Barbecue Orchestra, it was started by famed washtub bass and jug blower Fritz Richmond (of the original Jim Kweskin Jug Band) and Turtle VanDemarr (guitar player with Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks). In 2008 Fritz passed on to jug band heaven and Turtle began playing music in his daughter’s band. The remaining members Stew, Spud and Doc added a sousaphone player par excellence, Mark.

Lou Hazel grew up along the Allegheny River, where New York meets Pennsylvania and Northern Appalachia slips into quiet obscurity. In a landscape of cold towns, blue-collar fatigue, and early brushes with hardship, music wasn’t inherited. It was uncovered. There were no venues, no mentors, no real sense of a scene… just whatever you could scrape together with curiosity and a cassette deck.
That absence of direction, guidance, and art shaped Lou’s songs as much as any influence. His music echoes the loneliness of those forgotten towns and the strange resilience it takes to create something where nothing was planted. Blending folk, indie, and an eye for the overlooked, Lou writes like someone who’s learned to pay attention. His songs are spare, vivid, and weathered with warmth.
After years of solo touring and home recording, Lou found grounding in Durham, North Carolina, where a vibrant music scene and chosen community have helped shape his recent work. His latest record, Riot of the Red, captures the urge to get away from it all—the noise, the headlines, the weight of a world gone sideways—and find stillness in the simplest things: a long drive, a bare sky, a familiar chord. Lou Hazel makes music for those who had to teach themselves how to listen.

In 2019, she released her debut album Medicine For Living, the title track of which won Merlefest’s revered Chris Austin Songwriting Contest. Her 2021 follow up Headwaters garnered national attention from American Songwriter and Rolling Stone, among others. Rose wrote most of the album in the early stages of the pandemic, which she astutely characterizes as having “that weird lucid feeling of not-time.”
“Headwaters are the source of a river. The furthest point from where water merges with something else. They are not mighty. Just a network of small tributaries, like a creek, not necessarily picturesque, but they’re the most important part of the river. Water is fluid and inconsistent and sacred and indifferent. You can be miles down a river, but you’re still at the origin. And in that way, water feels like it has transcended time. That’s how these songs found me—the same way memories do, in that slivering, elusive water. As quickly as you come across them, you bend in another direction.”
Perhaps following in the steps of her great grandfather, Rose’s songs feel like oil paint landscapes of her own life in the mountains, often wringing out the beauty in mundanity and exploring timeless topics. Her earnest, well crafted stylings are a multi-layered merger of old country music and traditional folk songs, colored by rock and roll and mountain soul.
